Educator for 27 years
Highly Effective Teaching Consultant since 1990
Credentials: BA

Highly Effective Teaching (HET) field Consultants are experienced Master Educators and inspiring presenters who began their work with the Center for Effective Learning (formerly Susan Kovalik & Associates, Inc.) when they implemented the HET Model (previously ITI) in their own classrooms. Each has sought extended and deep understanding of the neuroscience of learning by attending multiple HET training events as well as outside trainings. They enjoy working nationally with educators and their students. Having participated in coaching, each weave their own unique areas of expertise into the model. HET consultants are committed to lifelong learning and to the success of the schools with which they work. Our 35 years of experience allows us to assist each client with customizing and offering guidance for the most beneficial training sequence at each site.

A major goal of education is to connect students to the meaningfulness of their own lives as they relate to the rest of the world, so they each know they are on a unique and special journey that requires the development of the gifts with which they were born. As a teacher, Dean helps students make those connections and provides tools for them to be successful. She believes teachers are the bridge between potential and realization.

As a Master Consultant with the Highly Effective Teaching (HET) model conducting workshops across the United States, Dean brings her enthusiasm and inspiration to participants. Through her use of humor, story, and personal experience, she ties the practicalities and facts about bodybrain-compatible education to the profound and life-changing effects it can have on people. Participants have the opportunity to grasp a clear picture of what HET is like, and to identify the steps necessary for reaching their implementation goals.

An educator in California since 1970, Dean has worked in the inner-city areas of Hunters Point, Watts, and Sausalito as well as the suburban areas of Sonoma County.
Her range of teaching experience is from second grade to college level language arts. She has lived on the Hopi reservation and worked with Native American groups in Washington, Arizona, California, and Utah.

Related educational experience includes two years as a National Park Service Interpretive Ranger in Arizona and California and two years as the director of an environmental education center at Point Reyes National Seashore.

Dean combines her successful HET experiences as a teacher with her diverse background to show participants what they can do to positively change the heart of education.
