Judy Eacker enjoys working extensively with educators, parents, and students to lead them to a full understanding of the Highly Effective Teaching (HET) Model. Her personal roots with bodybrain-compatible education are extensive. As an elementary teacher, Judy first implemented HET in her own classroom. She also organized an inter-district team of teachers who collaborated weekly to develop an integrated yearlong theme with standards-based conceptual curriculum. Focus for instruction was on hands-on learning experiences based on real-world application and exploration.
Judy’s teaching background includes service as a district Science Mentor Teacher, a trainer for “Family Math,” “Family Science,” “Math Their Way,” and a trainer for student teachers. She has also given workshops on Multiple Intelligences, Integrating Math and Science through Literature, and Peer Coaching. Judy has a background in working with teachers for the Gifted and Talented, as well as coaching and writing curriculum with more depth and comprehension. Her strong academic experience and ability to relate to people enables her to create useful and memorable trainings.
Judy’s leadership in school-wide and district-wide implementation of bodybrain compatible teaching theory-to-practice has included the process of training internal leaders. She has modeled, trained and coached administrators and teachers alike. Having on-site peer coaches and trainers available to lend support, encouragement, and direction more readily assures that these practices will quickly and efficiently be embedded into the culture of the school.
In recent years, Judy’s focus has centered on behavior management (Diane Gossen’s Restitution training, Sigurd Zielke’s and Horacio Sanchez’s brain research), stress reduction (Heart Math’s “Freeze Frame”), and Daniel Amen’s work with ADD and ADHD. Judy’s warm sense of humor, optimistic outlook and focus on professional and personal goals makes it easy for participants to relax, laugh, and feel comfortable as they try the many strategies she offers.
Judy’s many unique gifts provide a wonderful partnership with HET. First, she has worked extensively in the deaf community learning to sign both the Lifelong Guidelines and LIFESKILLS as seen in the resource DVD, “Sign On”. Second, Judy’s unique song and lyric writing talents led her and her husband, Russ, to create songs teaching about the LIFESKILLS which can be found on the CD Songs About LIFESKILLS. Third, Judy and Russ have presented numerous interactive musical LIFESKILL assembly programs for school and youth groups throughout the Western United States. These songs are used to teach many basic reading and language arts skills as well as about character education. Fourth, Judy created a unique resource entitled Origami Curiosity Shop that integrates concepts and skills found in Math, Social Studies, Science and Art.
When Judy is not at work, she can be found hiking, camping, swimming and knitting. She also cherishes the time she spends with her grandchildren in Alaska and Idaho. |
