"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
John Dewey |
Sue Pearson is a long-time user of Highly Effective Teaching (HET) Model (Formerly ITI) both in the classroom and as a consultant presenting the model to teachers and administrators. Her practical experience means that she has a wealth of ideas for implementation in the classroom. Sue believes in bodybrain-compatible education because she has implemented the HET model and has seen excellent results for both children and adults. Her commitment and use of the LIFESKILL of perseverance convinced her home district, in Syracuse, New York, to implement the model.
In addition to a BS and Masters in Education, Sue has also earned a CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies-a pre-doctorate degree). She became a "Certified Grant Writer" earned through RA Associates and assists schools in locating funds for HET projects and training. As a science mentor affiliated with Syracuse University and NASA, Sue successfully implemented a hands-on approach including the practical application of science in her school.
Sue’s writing skills have been demonstrated in the following ways. Author of Tools for Citizenship & Life: Using the ITI Lifelong Guidelines and LIFESKILLS in your Classroom (in both English and Arabic), and co-author of Character Begins at Home: Family Tools for Teaching Character and Values and contributor to the LG/LIFESKILLS activity cards. These ideas have helped countless educators and parents develop and instill a sense of responsible citizenship in their classrooms and homes. The 4-part Spyglass series (Developing an Agenda, Writing Procedures, Enriching the Environment, and Planning/Conducting a Being There) were written and directed by Sue as a way to help beginners apply Stage One of the HET Model. As the facilitator for both the SKA-ListServ and the LEADERSHIP ListServ, Sue offers practical advice, provides resources, and answers questions sent in by the members. Linda Jordan and Sue co-created the HET certification process as a means to recognize those educators committed to creating bodybrain-compatible classrooms and schools. A true lifelong learner, Sue continues to expand her repertoire of teaching and technology strategies.
Sue's honors include being selected Outstanding Teacher of the Year (twice in her home district) and being chosen for inclusion in the Who's Who of American Teachers (1998, 2005). For three years (2006-2008), Cambridge Who’s Who Honor Edition selected Sue and Manchester Who’s Who Among Executive and Professional Women (2005) identified her as being an accomplished professional in the field of education.
