The Center for Effective Learning provides customized training opportunities during the annual Summer Institute, held at the beautiful Granlibakken Resort near Lake Tahoe, Califormia. We offer support to educators as they enhance and refine a variety of instructional opportunities through dynamic and interactive professional development. Select Choice Sessions connecting the current brain research of the HET Model to specific uses in classrooms, schools, and districts, as well as offering support for educators and administrators.

Learn more about the Principles of Learning and Bodybrain-Compatible Elements through the Biology of Learning, Instructional Strategies, and Conceptual Curriculum that promotes responsible citizenship. This innovative educational model has been successful in schools throughout the world for 25 years now. Find out why! |
| HET Stages 2 and Advanced |
HET and RTI (Response to Intervention) with Chuck Grable
The Highly Effective Teaching Model (HET), developed by Susan Kovalik, allows school districts to meet many of the academic and behavioral expectations of Response to Intervention (RTI). HET is a comprehensive K-12 school improvement model designed to increase student performance and teacher satisfaction by focusing on brain-compatible curriculum and instructional strategies in an environment that is absent of threat. The primary purpose of the model is to grow responsible citizens. This session will explore the basics of the HET model; the leadership, planning, and professional development needed to implement an effective RTI plan; and how HET helps to meet those needs. |

The History of Granlibakken with owner Ron Parsons
The Granlibakken resort has a rich history, which is passionately presented by owner, Ron Parsons. In this Being There Experience, participants learn more about the area, background, and the beautiful resort facility. Granlibakken is a Norwegian name meaning a hill sheltered by trees. Granlibakken is family-owned, occupying 74 wooded acres in a picturesque mountain valley of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Participants can enjoy a relaxed and informative presentation of Granlibakken. |

Self-Guided Being There Experience (for Advanced HET Levels of implementation)
For participants who have successfully implemented Level 2 or higher of the HET Model with creating their own conceptual curriculum, we are providing an option of a self-guided Being There experience. Some options may include 1. an excursion to spectacular Lake Tahoe, 2. The Gatekeeper's Cabin Museum (at Lake Tahoe's only outlet: the Truckee River), 3. Squaw Valley – site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, 4. the nearby Donner Memorial/Emigrant Trail Museum, or other self-guided experiences as determined. Participants selecting this option please download the Being There GUIDE to record information gathered for creating your immersion areas. |

How do you motivate the reluctant student to give the attention and effort needed to learn skills? This workshop will focus on the characteristics of each of the nine “smarts” and what to look for so you can identify the dominant intelligence in your students. We will then use this information to construct inquiries (activities) that embed the weak and dominant intelligences in a meaningful context. |
